Antoinette Messam, born into a Jamaican family with a rich tradition in clothing creation, was destined for a career in fashion. With a dressmaker for a mother and a tailor for a grandfather, she was immersed in the craft from an early age. At The Academy of Merchandising and Design in Toronto, Messam specialized in textiles. Her journey took her to Asia, where she designed fabric for bridal shoes before expanding her expertise into fashion design, styling, and costume design.
Messam's distinguished career includes costume design in acclaimed films such as The Book of Clarence (2023), The Harder They Fall (2021), Creed (2015) and Orphan (2009). Messam’s contributions to the industry have earned her accolades, including the 2021 Hamilton Behind the Camera Award, the 2022 Black Reel Award for Outstanding Costume Design, and a CDG nomination for The Book of Clarence (2024). Her pursuit of excellence continues to shape the world of cinematic storytelling through costume.
